About this episode
Dr Tom van Eijk is a cosmetic doctor in Amsterdam. He left surgical training in 2003 to focus on injectables, began teaching by 2005, and is known worldwide for his ferning and lip tenting techniques.
We've often speculated what a formal training pathway for cosmetic injectables might look like, so we found the only country that has created one. In 2019 the Netherlands recognised cosmetic medicine as a medical specialty with a government-controlled training programme. Tom gives his unfiltered opinion on what led to the change, whether it was necessary, its cost and politics, and what Australian injectors can learn. We also cover strengthening skin versus adding volume, basic safety standards and emergency preparedness.
