About this episode
Disasters and Solutions looks at unusual, difficult or outright disastrous outcomes caused by injectables. We speak to the injectors involved, go through what happened step by step, and learn what might have prevented it and how injectors can practise more safely.
In Chapter 1, the first of the series, Dr Cormac Convery discusses a patient treated and injured by a non-medical injector using a likely imported, unregulated botulinum toxin. As the story unfolds, we learn she was one of at least nine patients injured in the same way by the same injector.
We cover founding CMAC and complication networks, prevention, multiple patients presenting with the same problem, suspected counterfeit products, why testing and biopsy matter, granulomas and foreign body reactions, intralesional steroids, supporting anxious patients through recovery, restoring contour with laser and filler, who pays for complication care, unregulated injectors and under-reporting.
