An assessment of the Australian chain clinics with Babak Moini

With Babak Moini, Founder of Laser Clinics AustraliaHosts Dr Jake Sloane and David Segal

About this episode

Babak Moini founded Laser Clinics Australia (LCA) in 2008. It became the world's largest aesthetic and skin clinic chain, with over 200 locations in Australia, Singapore, the UK and Canada. Numerous competitor brands have since chased the same patients, all built on discounted, high-volume treatments in high foot traffic locations and shopping centres.

Babak sold his final shares in LCA in 2017 and has watched from the sidelines as the chain model he started has evolved.

We discuss founding LCA, private equity and selling the business, pricing pressure and unsustainable discounts, why franchise models are struggling, nurse shortages, competition and saturation, regulation and compliance costs, advice for franchise owners and opportunities for independent clinics.
