About this episode
Sydney plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr Pouria Moradi recently published his first book, Normal: A Plastic Surgeon's Letter to His Daughters About Body Image. The idea came as he watched his seven-year-old daughter at a swimming carnival, proud of herself and unaware of how she looked, and wondered how long that innocence would last and what a father who offers cosmetic surgery every day should say.
This is a deep conversation about body image, parenting and ethics, and about what normal really is. We cover talking about cosmetic work at home, ethics and saying no, screening patients and red flags, setting realistic expectations, 3D imaging pitfalls, body dysmorphic disorder, social media dysphoria, surgeon bias, patients versus clients, defending cosmetic surgery and the new cosmetic guidelines.
