About this episode
Professor David Veale is a consultant psychiatrist in South London and an internationally renowned researcher in body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). He leads a highly specialised service for patients with severe anxiety disorders including OCD, PTSD and BDD.
Having first explored BDD back in Episode 7, we revisit the topic. We discuss how virtual working and the Zoom boom have affected how we see ourselves, what BDD is and how it differs from patients who are simply particular, red flags in the cosmetic consultation, assessing motivation, when treatment may not be in a patient's best interest, communicating concerns and referring safely, the patient perspective, treatment options, and emerging research.
