The Entrepreneurs (Chapter 1): How David lost $100 million

With hosts Dr Jake Sloane and David Segal

About this episode

In The Entrepreneurs we focus on pioneers in the business world, sharing their stories of success, failure, life-changing lessons and the big decisions they made, to inspire our listeners.

In Chapter 1, David shares his journey in aesthetics from the very beginning. Starting out importing lasers from China with no experience, a chance opportunity led him to found and manage the hugely successful Cosmos Clinic.

After another chance meeting, he became General Manager of Laser Clinics Australia, now the world's biggest chain clinic. These early successes led David and his partners to found The Cosmetic Institute (TCI), which disrupted the Australian cosmetic surgery industry within two years, at its peak performing 100 breast surgeries a week and turning over $40 million a year.

Then things came unstuck. David gives a brutally honest account of the root causes, the most difficult period of his life, and the lessons he has carried forward.
